Normandy Beaches

The Normandy Beaches in France are where the infamous D-Day took place between Nazi Germany and the Allied Forces in 1944. The Battle of Normandy is the most important and major event to occur during World War II. The Normandy Invasion, Operation Overlord, was the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Of all my travels, it is one of the most moving experiences I have ever had. The World War II Normandy American Cemetary and Memorial honors all the Americans who lost their lives in Europe. The cemetary is on a cliff overlooking the landing beaches, most notably Omaha Beach. The seemingly endless rows of pristine white crosses and some stars of David are an overwhelming sight. One almost feels the history infused in the site and I feel privileged to have been there.
