Duration: 4 weeks
Objectives:
This unit will introduce students to the many talented and diverse women in American history. Students will read and discuss primary documents, research, and present their finding in writing, orally and artistically. This course is guided by the following objectives:
1) Demonstrate that women of all races and ages have made a variety of contributions to the United States.
2) Appreciate how women used history in their early struggle for the right to vote.
3) Through primary source readings, students will recognize that civil liberties are not freely given, but must be taken.
Goals:
Given these objectives, the goals for this course are:
1) Identify the political, social and economic contributions of women to American society.
2) The student understands the major reform movements of the 19th century.
3) Evaluate the impact of reform movements including public education, temperance, women's rights, prison reform and care of the disabled.
4) The student applies critical thinking skills to organize and use information acquired from a variety of sources including electronic technology.
5) Identify points of views from the historical context surrounding an event and the frame of reference, which influenced the participants.
6) The student communicates in written, oral, and visual forms.
7) Use social studies terminology correctly;
8) Use standard grammar, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation;
9) Create written, oral, and visual presentations of social studies information
