| The two websites that I chose to analyze for their usability issues, including other web characteristics that may play a role in the user’s choice for browsing. The first web site is http://www.georgebush.com and the second web site is http://www.deanforamerica.com. The use of space is the first issue, which is also the most important. On President Bush’s website (http://www.georgewbush.com), the use of space is well defined. The links are easily accessible as well as they follow the “general” format, of being placed to the left of the page. This also incorporates text; I think that there is a little too much information on the home page. It seems to be a little crowded, and looks to be a little cluttered. In reference to the home page, between the text and images they are well balanced. The use and consistency of tabs throughout the website, is very well done, but the menu on the left is not consistent on all the pages. With the use of tabs on upper portion in the Bush website, the tabs match the color of the menu on the left. The color scheme is synchronized with the tabs and the layout of the page. The layout of the web design is accurate and consistent on all the pages. For the issue of font color, the red color was used to bring special attention to the important segments. Bush’s website used icons that represent certain things, which everyone may not be familiar with. So to handle that issue, a one word description is provided below the icon. Overall I would grade this website with an A- on its usability and appearance. The second site that is to be analyzed is http://www.deanforamerica.com. If you look at this website the use of space is really simple and clear. This is a good thing for users who are just browsing, and may be first-time users; they feel free and not over abounded by information. I think that this site is real user-friendly because it has a clear defined layout that is easy to understand and browse through. I dislike the right side of the page, because it just seems like things were thrown on there with different size texts, images, and the variety of colors that are used. The menu on the left side of the page takes up too much width and makes the website seem to be cramped and as though everything is squished together. Actually this site when compared to Bush’s site uses less space in reference to the page width. It also requires a lot of scrolling down, to get information, in reference to length. This site is also text heavy and it doesn’t incorporate enough image/pictures. The one picture that you first see is a bit too big, that space could have been used for something more important. Overall I would grade this website with a B- on its usability and appearance. | ||||
