The Adelie Penguin
They are the smallest penguins that live on Antarctica. The grow to be about 30 inches tall. They are also the most common in Antarctica. They build a nest made out of stones and pebbles on the beaches of the Antarctic Island. This nest helps provide protection from other penguins and the cold. The male and females take turns incubating their eggs. Once hatched the chicks huddle together to stay warm, which allows the parents to go feeding again. Adelie Penguins are easily identified by the white ring around their eyes and the short beak, which is mostly covered by feathers. To travel across the ice the Adelie Penguins often slide on their stomachs where possible.
