The Emperor Penguin

Emperor Penguins are the largest of all the penguin species. They can be as tall as 4 feet. They are identified by their size and the yellow neck and upper chest. The Emperor Penguins have a very simple life. The males come back from their feeding season and walk across ice more than 60 miles to the colony to find their mate. After they mate in the fall, the female will lay her egg shortly there after. It is then up to the male to hold the egg on top of his feet for about 9 weeks, enduring some of the coldest weather on Earth. By the time the females get back, the chicks have hatched and they have begun to grow. The chick has now matured enough to stand on ice. They eventually lose their fluffy feathers and look more like their parents. After the winter is over the males, some young and old, head back to the water and wait to do this again next year.
