Buddhism started in 1988 when Phil Jackson was named head coach of the Chicago Bulls.  The philosophy of Zen was introduced, and subsequently, Michael Jordan went on to 7 consecutive scoring titles.  Also worth noting is that Scottie Pippen was named to the NBA All-Defensive team 9 times.
