Just what I need

I'm out on my lunch break, for my now-tradition Friday chicken sandwich from Odie's. (I've been to Odie's, I would say, at least once a week for the past year and a half. And I got the same chicken sandwich every time.) I'm crusing along, when I notice quite a curiosity: the signal light is out. Not working. Broken. Kaput. This can cause quite a problem, because this signal light is stationed at the intersection of two four-lane streets, along with left turn lanes.

I was surprised, however, that everything was going in an orderly fashion. Most people have a hard enough time driving properly at a stop sign, let alone one without signal lights. Now, my indignant side came out when I pulled into Odie's and discovered two policemen sitting there chowing on Odie Dogs. My basic contention was that there should be police out there directing traffic before somebody gets into an accident.

After deciding not to get upset about it, I ate my lunch, which was tasty as always. I read the newspaper. It was fun. Then I had to go back to work, and I was annoyed to discovered that the signal light was still out, and there was still nobody directing traffic. I am already have nightmares relating to the fact that there will be a gigantic traffic jam come rush hour, because the village of Franklin Park will still not feel the need to send out someone to direct!
