What a concept

I'm flipping through the channels a little while ago, avoiding my stated goal of cleaning my apartment. (I have a veritable list of tasks that I need to do, but I'm just not feeling it. I actually want to sleep for about fifteen straight hours.)

When I turned to Fox Sports World, I discovered that they were showing a English soccer match, the hated Manchester United v. Aston Villa, so I thought I would watch/listen to it for a little bit. As I listened, I noticed that the announcer seemed to be cheering loudly for United. I figured Sky Sports (from whom FSW had gotten the match) had just hired a United-leaning announcer. But then I listened closer. There were, in fact, a United fan and an Aston Villa fan sitting in the booth, and they were broadcasting the match.

As far as I could tell, there was nobody else with them. The banter was, invariably, filled with something like this: "Oye what a great ball, come on United!" and then ... "He's not gonna score with 'is 'ead there, he's crap!" and more... "Come on United!" ... "Come on Villa!" ... "I reckon 'e's gonna have a go there. But he shouldn't, 'cos he's crap."

After I discovered the concept, I realized that this was absolutely hilarious. Could you imagine what this would be like with American football? It was, I tell you, one of the more original things I'd seen on TV lately. Madden would be out of a job like that!
